North Walsham Infant School and Nursery
We are a large Infant School and Nursery in the market town of North Walsham, near the North Norfolk Coast. Our school opened in 1874 and still has much of its Victorian architectural heritage, although it has been modernised over the years. We have a purpose built 52-place nursery, which opened in 1997. Our school has 6 classes, providing education for children from Reception to Year 2.
Our last OFSTED inspection took place in May 2003. Following the good comments we received, we are continuing to improve our school through an inspiring programme of development. In November 2003 we introduced Philosophy with Children (PWC) into all our classes and this project has already improved our children’s language skills. Other projects included a major building programme to improve the outside play areas and to develop more opportunities for learning through play and child-initiated activities. In September 2006 we introduced a new complete literacy programme called ReadWrite into each class from Reception to Year 2.
We share a site with NW Junior School and together with a local charity, we run Kidzone (Breakfast/After school and Holiday club).Plans have been agreed to build a new Children’s Centre on site to open by March 2008.
