The idea of Men’s Shed has come about to help and support individuals overcome problems with Welfare, Well-being, and Loneliness. At the Shed, we encourage everyone to join us and although we have the name Men’s Shed, we do have lady members.
The project is a Community based project that is spreading vastly across the U.K. and it is helping to bring individuals and communities together. The main idea of the Shed is to gain new friendships, which helps individuals get over loneliness and helps people become involved in worthwhile recycling projects whilst making things.
The Shed helps to promote Health and Well-being and a majority of our members are individuals recovering from various health issues. This is where the Shed comes into its own because sitting alone indoors worrying does not help. Coming along helps to clear one’s mind.
Being involved at the Shed helps us to be part of the community because we make and repair numerous items for the community. Everything that we make we make from recycled timber and various other materials. The members that come along have different skills so this helps to generate the fantastic ideas we come up with as we make things.
People who come along do not have to pay for anything. We are very fortunate that at present, we are self-sufficient tea, coffee and biscuits are supplied which helps to go along with what sheds are. We are sustainable by making and selling new things on that we make so we try to work to a good standard although everyone has different skills so this is a massive bonus.
The Shed is located at the back of the White Swan public house in Church Street. We can be found at the alley that takes you into the pub garden. Everybody is welcome to come along to see what we do. The opening times are Tuesday 1-00-4-00, Thursday 10-00- 1-00, and Saturday 10-00-1-00.
